Firmer textured Deglet Nour is a perfect date-night snack. The Deglet’s lovely translucence, nutty flavor, lightly chewy texture, and subtler sweetness combine for a date that is especially pleasing to refined tastebuds.
Unlike the gooier varieties, the Deglet Noor holds its shape in preparations like salads, hors d’oeuvres, sautées, desserts, and breads, and snacking on the Deglet will result in only minimally sticky fingers.
The two firmer cultivars, Deglet Nour and Zahidi, are harvested a few weeks later than the higher moisture varieties. Webshop and farmers market availability of Deglet Nour and Zahidi begins in late September and continues through sellout, usually in spring.
